Patna: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped at gunpoint in Munger district after her family refused a marriage proposal from one of the accused. The incident took place on May 19. Police arrested the main accused, Tuntun Mandal, on Thursday following a complaint filed by the victim’s family. A search is on for the remaining accused, police said.The victim’s family said Tuntun often talked to their daughter. Four months ago, he came to their house proposing marriage. “Our daughter is a minor, so we clearly refused. He still stayed in contact and often spoke to her on the phone,” said her father said.On May 19, Tuntun called the girl outside, luring her with a bike ride, and took her to a lake area. He then called two friends there. All three allegedly gang-raped her and later told her to go home.Police took immediate action after the complaint. A forensic team examined the crime spot and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.Local SDPO Anil Kumar said main accused Tuntun Mandal was arrested. “The medical examination of the victim was conducted at the sadar hospital. Search for other accused is on and further investigation is underway,” he said.
