Khagaria: The construction work of a 500-meter-long pontoon bridge across Kosi river near Beerbas village under Gogri block of the district is going on a war footing.
The bridge being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs25.13 crore would prove to be a boon for about one lakh people living in at least 25 riverine villages of Khagaria, Madhepura, Munger and Bhagalpur.
LJP(RV) MLA from Parbatta assembly constituency,
Babulal Shorya, said the long-cherished demand of the commuters of the area would be fulfilled following the completion of the project. Vivek Kumar, representative of the local MLA, said the bridge is likely to be opened for vehicular traffic on Jan 28.
Sanjiv Kumar, a Yuva Morcha activist, said the bridge being constructed from zero mile in Madhepura to Kapasiya ghat would reduce about 25 km of journey between Khagaria and Madhepura.
A villager, Milan Kumar, said people of the area now have to travel about 70 km to Alamnagar in Madhepura district. “With the completion of the bridge, the distance would be reduced to 25 km,” he said.
