Rai, who holds a position in the rural works department in Madhubani, with additional charge in Sitamarhi, is accused of possessing assets worth over Rs 3 crore, which is disproportionate to his known income, according to an EOU statement.
The investigation, led by the Economic and Cybercrime Division, follows credible information and subsequent verification of the allegations.
A case, registered under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), has led to a series of raids at multiple locations linked to Rai, read the statement.
The EOU officials executed search warrants at Rai’s residences in Progressive Colony, Jai Prakash Nagar and Bhootnath Road in Patna, besides his ancestral home at Hasanpur in Samastipur district.
The investigation revealed that Rai and his wife Babli own several properties, including residential, agricultural and commercial plots in Samastipur and Patna.
