In a heartbreaking development, the small town of Nalanda mourns the loss of 18-year-old Amarendra Kumar, whose lifeless body was pulled from the Goithwa river after a two-day search. His family fears the worst, suspecting foul play and even murder, as the young man's face showed signs of severe disfigurement and burn marks were found on his remains.
Biharsharif: The body of an 18-year-old youth, who had been missing for the past two days, was recovered from the Goithwa river near Ramji Chak village under Biharsharif town police station area in Nalanda district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Amarendra Kumar, son of late Munnu Paswan. His family alleged that he was murdered and the body was dumped in the river to destroy evidence.According to his brother, Randhir Kumar, Amarendra had left home around 4.30pm on Tuesday but did not return. “During the search, a shopkeeper told us that he was last seen near a mango tree after buying a cold drink. The body was spotted in the river by local children on Thursday afternoon. We identified him through his clothes, belt and toes,” he said.Police said the victim’s face was smashed and beyond recognition, and burn marks were found on the body. Police later reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Biharsharif police station SHO Samrat Deepak said, “A missing person report has been lodged and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem. Investigation is underway.”
