Patna: Three people were injured after a clash broke out between two groups over a shop eviction dispute at Mau Bazaar under Vidyapati Nagar police station in Samastipur on Friday night.
According to police, both sides allegedly attacked each other with sticks and rods, and several rounds were fired, triggering panic in the market. Terrified shopkeepers downed shutters and took shelter inside their shops. The situation was brought under control after police reached the spot.
Police said the injured persons have been admitted to Sadar Hospital. Tension continues to prevail in the area. Shopkeeper Prabhat Sah said he had rented the shop with a contract valid till March 2027, but the landlord later sold it to Govind Kumar.
“After purchasing the property, Govind kept pressuring me to vacate. I told him I would leave in March as per the agreement and even sought two to three months’ time, but he refused. The dispute escalated over this issue,” Sah said.
Eyewitnesses said both groups resorted to stone-pelting, creating a stampede-like situation, and alleged that five to six rounds were fired.
Additional SHO of Vidyapati Nagar, Aradhana Kumari, said, “An investigation is underway. We are probing stone-pelting and firing incidents. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings.”
