Activist from Ladakh Sonam Wangchuk arrived at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to join a protest seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination-related lapses. Wangchuk said the demand for the minister’s resignation was only the beginning and stressed that the larger goal was comprehensive reform of the education system. According to him, exam irregularities and paper leaks were symptoms of deeper systemic problems requiring greater transparency, accountability and quality in education. He also thanked the government for allowing the peaceful protest to take place. Wangchuk argued that elected representatives should send their children to government schools, saying policymakers lacked sufficient stake in the system. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Pariksha Pe Charcha”, he said the focus should now be on discussing what was going wrong with examinations.
