Noida: A three-day traffic enforcement drive across Noida, Central Noida and Greater Noida resulted in action against more than 22,000 vehicles between May 15 and 17. Conducted under police commissioner (CP) Laxmi Singh and supervised by additional CP (law and order) Rajeev Narayan Mishra, the campaign targeted pressure horns, defective or missing number plates, black window films, road stunts and speeding under a stated zero-tolerance policy.
Police said the primary objective of the drive was to improve road safety, ensure disciplined traffic movement and curb dangerous driving practices that often lead to accidents. During the operation, traffic personnel used decibel metres to measure sound levels of pressure horns and other illegal sound devices fitted in vehicles.
The police also intensified checks against overspeeding and stunt biking, particularly on major roads and highways across the district.
In the Noida zone, police teams conducted checks at 70 locations and inspected 12,882 vehicles. Action was taken against 3,481 vehicles for various traffic violations. This included 80 vehicles fitted with pressure horns, 205 vehicles without number plates or with defective number plates, 105 vehicles with black films, three involved in stunt driving and 121 overspeeding vehicles. Police also registered four FIRs and seized 14 vehicles during the drive.
Checks were carried out at 73 locations in the Central Noida zone. A total of 5,379 vehicles were inspected and action was taken against 1,617 vehicles, including 55 pressure horn cases, 156 vehicles without proper number plates, 51 vehicles with black films, 30 stunt driving cases and 170 overspeeding violations. One FIR was registered, five vehicles were seized and one abandoned vehicle was impounded.
Similarly, in the Greater Noida zone, police checked 7,277 vehicles at 91 locations and initiated action against 1,414 violators. The violations included 68 pressure horn cases, 204 defective number plates, 85 black film violations, 14 stunt driving cases and 259 overspeeding vehicles.
Apart from zonal police teams, the traffic police also carried out extensive checks at 39 locations and inspected 46,614 vehicles. A total of 15,785 vehicles were penalised for various violations, including 463 pressure horn cases, 781 defective number plates, 511 black film violations, 31 stunt driving cases and 1,676 overspeeding violations.
The commissionerate appealed to residents to follow traffic regulations and cooperate with the police in maintaining road safety and smooth traffic management across the district.
