Nashik: The city police have arrested a burglar and recovered gold jewellery worth over Rs6.5 lakh from his possession in a theft case registered with the Gangapur police three years ago.
Acting on the guidance of commissioner of police (CP) Sandeep Karnik and other senior officers, the crime branch police were gathering information about burglars wanted in cases of house break-ins. On Thursday, head constable Prashant Markad of the crime branch unit 1 received information that a person was moving around in the Anandvali-Chandshi bridge area with stolen gold.
The police immediately laid a trap and arrested suspect Kishor Bhalerao (22) of Joshiwada, Gangapur Road, and recovered over 41gm of gold jewellery worth Rs6.5 lakh from him.
Bhalerao told the police that around three years ago, he and two associates had committed a burglary at a bungalow in Savarkarnagar, Gangapur Road, and stolen gold jewellery. He stated that he had kept his share of jewellery and was planning to sell it.
A theft case was registered at the Gangapur police station in Nov 2022 with regards to the bungalow burglary.
