Nashik swelters as day temperature hits 2-year high of 42°C, nights also turn uneasy at 26°C

Nashik: The city experienced a sharp spike in temperatures on Monday, with the maximum temperature soaring to 42°C, the highest in the past two years. The minimum temperature also climbed significantly, touching 26°C, marking the warmest night of the season so far.Data showed that the minimum temperature rose by more than 3° within 24 hours from Sunday's 22.8°C. The nighttime temperature had dipped to 19.7°C on April 30 before steadily increasing in the days that followed.Daytime temperatures have remained above 40°C for the past three days, adding to public discomfort as warm nights offer little relief. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, the heat has been intensifying since Saturday, with the mercury consistently crossing 40°C. Monday's 42°C stands as the highest in the city in two years. Historically, Nashik recorded 42.8°C on April 28, 2019, while 42°C was last seen on May 23, 2024, the data showed.In response to the rising heat, Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued an advisory urging residents to take precautions. The residents have been asked to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to sunlight and limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.The advisory recommended frequent intake of water, wearing light-coloured and loose cotton clothing, and using protective gear like caps, umbrellas, and sunglasses. The residents are also advised to carry water while travelling and avoid excessive consumption of alcohol, tea, coffee and aerated drinks that might lead to dehydration.Additionally, people have been cautioned against eating high-protein or stale food and urged to seek immediate medical attention if they feel unwell. The use of ORS, lemon water and buttermilk has been encouraged to stay hydrated. Authorities have also stressed the need to ensure animals are kept in shaded areas with adequate water, while residents should keep homes cool by using curtains or sunshades and allowing ventilation during the night.Meanwhile, Jalgaon recorded a maximum of 44.3°C and a minimum of 26.5°C on Monday, while Malegaon reported 43.2°C during the day and 24.4°C at night.
