Qatar Airways set to resume Nagpur-Doha flights from May 21
Nagpur: The Nagpur-Doha flight, which was suspended due to the Middle East crisis, is set to resume from May 21. Qatar Airways will be operating the flight four days a week, said sources. Two international flights take off from Nagpur, connecting Doha, the capital of Qatar, and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Sharjah flight run by Air Arabia has also started running twice a week. Even the Sharjah flight was suspended after the US-Iran war broke out, but later the operator ran some flights on temporary basis before finally starting regular operations over a week ago."The flight to Doha was largely used for travelling further west to Europe and even the US. Resuming the services will once again make travel easier," said Raju Akolkar, honorary secretary of the Nagpur chapter of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI). Akolkar said the agents are already getting booking inquiries for the Doha flight. There have been demands to increase the connectivity to other sectors, typically the countries towards the east. "The agents' body has often urged airlines to start services to sectors like Singapore, Hong Kong or Thailand from Nagpur. However, Nagpur seems to be a neglected sector. This can be because the airlines' focus is on larger cities. Operators already run services towards Far East from Chennai, and even Hyderabad. There are chances that expansion of the Nagpur airport may attract more airlines," said Akolkar.
