Bawankule says Cong taking undue credit
20% Muslims in state will vote for BJP: Bawankule
The BJP in Maharashtra is reportedly making efforts to reach out to the Muslim community, with State BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule stating that nearly 20% of Muslims in the state will vote for the party in the upcoming LS elections. Bawankule mentioned that Muslim families are recognizing the progress made under PM Narendra Modi's leadership and that the BJP was appointing minority leaders in LS constituencies to ensure that the government's achievements are communicated to Muslims across the state. Bawankule also criticized Uddhav Thackeray for not taking a stance against Udhayanidhi Stalin's comment on Sanatan Dharma.
BJP wants to take credit for womens reservation: LoP
Leader of opposition in Punjab assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, criticized the BJP-led Union government for claiming credit for the women's reservation. He stated that the concept of women's reservation was originally introduced by the Indian National Congress, with former PM Rajiv Gandhi advocating for it in 1989. Bajwa highlighted that the bill faced obstacles in the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, the National Conference (NC) vice president, Omar Abdullah, clarified that the party supports the Women Reservation Bill. Congress criticized the bill, questioning the government's commitment to conducting necessary census and delimitation exercises before the 2024 elections.
Which party deserves the credit for womens reservation?
The Union cabinet has approved a bill to reserve 33% of parliamentary and legislature seats for women. The prospects of the bill passing in Parliament are high, as most major political parties support it and the ruling NDA has a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha. However, the implementation of the law may not happen before the 2024 elections. In 2010, the bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha but could not be taken up in the Lok Sabha due to opposition from parties representing other backward classes. With the current political landscape, the implementation of the bill is more likely.
