Two separate road mishaps near Mumbai kill 2 people; a Malad man and Raigad woman
Navi Mumbai: A Malad resident, Rajesh Naidu (34) was killed and 5 others sustained grievous injuries at the Hativali toll naka in Ratnagiri on Friday (Sept 5) afternoon. The speeding SUV driver lost control and crashed with the back side of a truck on the Mumbai-Goa highway in Rajapur taluka. The six were heading to meet their relatives in Kankavli, Sindhudurg.Their SUV had crashed into the rear end of the parked truck after the driver lost control. Naidu was sitting along side the driver. Part of the SUV was pushed under the truck. Naidu sustained severe head injuries but declared dead on arrival at the government rural hospital in Rajapur. The injured five were identified as Trushant Shelar (32), Kunal Salunkhe (39), Harshada Salunkhe (28), Priti Naidu (28) and Shrikant Ghadge (28), all residents of Malad. The driver, Kunal Salunkhe (39) has been booked for negligent and rash driving causing death among the relevant sections of the BNS and Motor Vehicle Act. Rajapur police inspector, Amit Yadav said, "Its a bailable offence and hence the driver, also injured and undergoing treatment, was let off."Meanwhile, Kishori Jawalekar, a housemaid in Mumbai, while on a Ganapati vacation to her native village in Mhasla, Raigad, was killed in a road mishap trying to save the life of an Anganwadi Sevika (govt run preschool teacher), Prajakta Gogarkar (42), on Friday (Sept 5). The victim was run over by a speeding car while the two women were crossing a road after alighting from a bus.The mishap was reported on the Mhasla-Shrivardhan road. Jawalekar was returning to her house in Mhasla taluka after visiting her parents. She and Gogarkar had boarded a ST bus moving from Shrivardhan towards Mhasla. The two after alighting at the Vandva bus stop were crossing the road towards when the mishap occurred.Seeing a speeding car moving towards Mhasla, Jawalekar had pulled Gogarkar towards the roadside but her attempt turned fatal for herself. The car ran over her while Gogarkar escaped unhurt. The victim fell down on the road and succumbed to grievous injuries. The doctors had declared her brought dead.Police inspector, Sandip Kahale said, "The fatal mishap is under investigation. The accused driver has been granted bail."The accused driver, Sohan Patil (21) was booked for negligent and rash driving causing the death and grievous injuries under the BNS and Motor Vehicle Act.
