Mumbai: A national of Republic of Chad was caught by the Customs for trying to smuggle out 14,580 US dollars equivalent to Rs 1.41 crore to Addis Ababa from Mumbai airport.Acting on the specific intelligence, the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs intercepted Al Amir Osman Adam, a Republic of Chad (Central Africa) national who cleared immigration and was to take a flight to Addis Ababa. As the information was absolute, the officials carried out a search of his baggage, resulting in recovery of 14,580 US dollars in denominations of 100, 50, 20 and 10. He was unable to explain why he was carrying so much cash. He was placed under arrest under the Customs Act and the concerned consulate was intimated.
