Mumbai: The Centre has raised the minimum support price for onions by Rs 3.50 and fixed it at Rs 15 per kg, said chief minister
Devendra Fadnavis, even as farmers continued protests in the state.
Speaking to the media after the weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Fadnavis said the state govt requested a meeting with the Centre to discuss the issue, and the meeting will be held on Wednesday.
Dismissing the opposition protests as “photo opportunity”, he said the Mahayuti govt was sensitive towards farmers. He criticised the opposition, terming its protests as political.
“Some people are playing politics and creating photo opportunities. The onion price during their tenure is no secret. We will try to find a long-term solution. This is a 100% political protest (by the opposition). Those who do not shed tears while cutting onions are now trying to shed tears,” he said.
