KCDC to organise art contest for school students on May 17

Mangaluru: Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation Ltd (KCDC) will organise an art contest for school students at Kadri Park on May 17, alongside the two-day cashew mela.

The competition will be held from 9am to 10.30am, with prize distribution scheduled for 11.30am. It is open to students from classes 1 to 10.

For students of lasses 1 to 4, the theme is “environment’s beauty”, and participants may use crayons or oil pastels. Cash prizes will be Rs 2,000 for first place, Rs 1,500 for second place and Rs 1,000 for third place.

For students of Classes 5 to 7, the theme is “birds that feed on cashew apple”, and participants may use crayons or watercolour. Cash prizes will be Rs 2,000 for first place, Rs 1,500 for second place and Rs 1,000 for third place.

For students of Classes 8 to 10, the theme is “children playing on a cashew tree”, and participants may use watercolour or acrylic colours. Cash prizes will be Rs 3,000 for first place, Rs 2,000 for second place and Rs 1,000 for third place.

Students can register on the spot. All participants will receive participation certificates. The corporation has urged students to arrive 30 minutes before the start of the contest and bring their own colours.

Along with the art contest, competitions such as elocution and rangoli for women have also been organised.

The events are being held as part of the Cashew Mela and workshop in the city on May 17 and 18, marking the 48th year of establishment of the KCDC.

Announcing the development on Friday, KCDC chairperson Mamatha Gatti said the competitions were being organised as part of the corporation’s aim to promote cashew. The main aim of the mela and workshop is to encourage cashew growers in the district and promote cashew, she said. She also announced that the corporation would distribute free cashew saplings to all visitors during the fest.
