Madurai: VO Chidambaranar Port Authority’s work on adopting renewable energy, producing green fuels and pursuing decarbonisation has secured it the “Excellence in Motion: Re-defining the Future of Logistics in India” Award in the category “Green and Sustainable Logistics – Decarbonization Champion”, conferred by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on June 5 at New Delhi. The award acknowledged the port’s combined green and sustainable logistics programme, which includes green mobility, green methanol bunkering, green hydrogen initiatives and renewable energy powered port projects. In the financial year 2025–26, renewable sources supplied 94% of the port’s electricity needs. In his message, Susanta Kumar Purohit, chairperson of VOC Port Authority, said the award reflects the port’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, innovation and operational excellence. He added that the port will continue to expand initiatives that contribute to India’s clean energy transition and support long-term maritime decarbonisation objectives.
