The CID of West Bengal Police conducted raids at two key Trinamool Congress offices in Kolkata on Tuesday as part of its investigation into an alleged signature forgery case. Search operations were carried out at the Kalighat party office near Mamata Banerjee's residence and at an office on Camac Street linked to Abhishek Banerjee.Investigators reportedly faced resistance at both locations before entering the premises with the assistance of police personnel. The raids coincided with Abhishek Banerjee's scheduled appearance before CID officials in connection with allegations of mismatched signatures of several TMC MLAs on a West Bengal Assembly resolution. Tuesday marked the third consecutive summons issued to him in the case.

Inside TMC Turmoil: MPs Revolt, Leaders Resign and NDA aims at power

The Trinamool Congress is facing a significant internal crisis amid reports of rebellion by a group of Lok Sabha MPs and the resignation of senior leader Shekhar Roy. The developments have raised concerns over the party’s internal cohesion and leadership stability at both the national and state levels.A section of TMC MPs is reported to have expressed support for the National Democratic Alliance, bringing attention to the anti-defection law, which requires at least two-thirds of a party’s MPs to split in order to avoid disqualification. In this case, the figure stands at 19 MPs, making the ongoing developments critical in determining the legitimacy of any breakaway group. The possible shift in support has implications for the balance of power in the Lok Sabha. The NDA’s current strength could increase if the rebel MPs formally align, bringing it closer to the two-thirds majority required for passing constitutional amendments. Earlier, key legislative proposals faced challenges due to insufficient numbers in Parliament. The situation is further intensified by Shekhar Roy’s resignation, which is being seen as an indication of deeper dissatisfaction within the party’s senior leadership. Reports of internal dissent within West Bengal add to the broader picture of organisational strain. These developments are likely to influence upcoming parliamentary proceedings and could play a role in reshaping the current political landscape.
