12k clear written exam for UP Police SI job
The successful candidates have been shortlisted for document verification (DV) and physical standard test (PST), which are proposed to be held in the third week of May. Detailed information regarding the examination centres, dates and reporting time will soon be uploaded on the board’s official website, officials said. The examination witnessed massive participation from across the state and country, with 15,75,760 applications received by the board. Of these, 11,66,386 were male applicants while 4,09,374 were female candidates, reflecting the enormous competition for police service jobs in UP, said officials.According to officials, the written examination was conducted on Mar 14-15 in four separate shifts at multiple examination centres. The recruitment also assumes significance because of the exceptionally high applicant-to-seat ratio, with nearly 347 candidates competing for every available post.Since the examination was held in multiple shifts, the board carried out a normalisation process for marks in accordance with provisions of the recruitment rules and procedures mentioned in the official notification to ensure fairness and parity among candidates, said officials.
Candidates were required to secure a minimum of 35% marks in each section of the examination and at least 50% aggregate marks overall to be considered eligible for shortlisting. The board said that the 12,333 candidates were selected on the basis of normalised scores, merit ranking and reservation provisions applicable in UP.Officials said that approximately 2.7 times the number of advertised vacancies were shortlisted for the next phase of recruitment. However, all candidates obtaining the same cut-off marks were also included in the merit list, leading to the final shortlisted figure crossing the calculated ratio. The declaration of results marks a crucial stage in the recruitment process, as candidates who clear DV and PST will subsequently move towards further stages including physical efficiency tests, medical examinations and final merit preparation as per recruitment norms.Candidates can access their results by visiting the board’s official website and entering their registration number and date of birth in the result portal. The SI recruitment drive is being viewed as a major effort by the UP govt to strengthen policing and improve manpower in the state police force amid growing law-and-order and policing requirements across urban and rural districts.
