Meat trader beaten to death, family blames TMC

Howrah: A 26-year-old wholesale meat trader was found critically injured near his house at Rasikal in Howrah's Bankra on Tuesday. The victim, Sadab Kureshi, succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital.Kureshi's family claimed that he was beaten to death for refusing to pay money demanded by Trinamool workers ahead of the polls. His wife, Nasima Begum, alleged that Rs 3 lakh was asked of him, and threats followed after he offered only Rs 50,000. Police said Kureshi's body had severe injuries, including fractured jawbone, hands, legs, waist and ribs. Family members said he left home at 6am to purchase goats. An hour later, passers-by found him lying on a secluded stretch near his residence.
