Bomb attack on Cong leader

Raza Ahmed, a Congress leader and former councillor of Kamarhati Municipality, was critically injured when unidentified criminals hurled bombs at him in the North 24-Parganas town on Wednesday.

KOLKATA:Raza Ahmed, a Congress leader and former councillor of Kamarhati Municipality,was critically injured when unidentified criminals hurled bombs at him in theNorth 24-Parganas town on Wednesday. Ahmed was admitted to Sagar Dutta Hospital.Police are conducting raids in Kamarhati to nab the miscreants.Around 12.30 pm, the bike-borne miscreants screeched to a halt neara Kamarhati bus stand where Ahmed was waiting for a bus, hurled bombs at him andfled. Panic-stricken locals ran for cover. A while later, Ahmed was rushed tothe nearby Sagar Dutta Hospital. Local Congress activists then helda protest demonstration against the attack and blocked the road where theincident occurred. They alleged that CPM-backed goons were out to terrorizepeople in the area and had a hand in the incident. Police soon reached the spotto control the situation.
