Appointments of college gov body heads, extns cancelled

Kolkata: The state higher education department has issued a notice stating that the appointments of governing body presidents and nominated members should be termina-ted immediately. The education department notice added that the tenure of officers or officials who have been re-employed or are serving on an extension beyond the retirement age of 60 should also be terminated. State-aided colleges usually have political figures as governing body presidents, and several nominated members of the governing body are believed to be aligned with Trinamool. The previous govt had extended the tenure of governing bodies in several colleges. Before the new education minister took charge, the department implemented multiple measures, of which this is considered a major development, according to several educators.
