Kottayam: The statement of Jojimon, the news channel cameraman who is the key witness who captured the visuals on the day of the incident in which the gunman of former chief minister
Pinarayi Vijayan allegedly assaulted KSU and Youth Congress workers, was recorded on Friday.
A five-member special investigation team (SIT), led by SP A P Shaukatali, recorded the detailed statement after summoning Jojimon to the Alappuzha crime branch office. His phone, which captured the visuals of the alleged assault that serves as crucial evidence in the case, is in police custody. The statement recording lasted about one and a half hours.
Precise answers were given to questions aimed at establishing the authenticity of the visuals captured. By showing the video of the incident, those including security personnel who surrounded and attacked Alappuzha MLA A D Thomas and Youth Congress leader Ajay Juwel Kuriakose were also identified.
The SIT was also informed that there were threats to change the statement when the visuals were submitted as evidence in court. Although video visuals were presented, the local police did not accept any of them as evidence.
