Jaisalmer: A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain claimed the life of a folk artist and left six others seriously injured in separate incidents in Jaisalmer’s border areas late Monday night.
The fatality occurred in the Sam area when a wall collapsed at a private tent resort during a cultural performance by local folk artists. Five performers, including two female dancers, were trapped under the debris and rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Sam. One of them, 27-year-old
Swaroop Khan, a resident of Berisiyala village, was declared dead on arrival. The four other injured artists were referred to Jodhpur after initial treatment in Jaisalmer.
In another incident, strong winds and rain at a private cement plant in Ramgarh blew tin sheets onto two workers, causing serious injuries. Both were shifted to Jodhpur for advanced treatment.
The storm disrupted normal life across several parts of Jaisalmer district, including Ramgarh, Nachna, Pokaran, Ramdevra and Phalsund. Hailstorms were also reported from the Nachna region.
Heavy rain, thunder and strong winds continued through the night in several areas, including Ramgarh, Chandhan, Lathi and Jaisalmer city, affecting daily life and causing widespread disruption.
