Drinking water supply in Ajmer rural affected, PHED team instructed to remain in village

Ajmer: Villages in Ajmer are facing hard times as drinking water supply here has been severely affected. Villages like Sanpla, Sapali, Supa, Gopalpura, Kheri and Shankali in Kekri block have not been receiving supply for the last 10 days. Many illegal connections in several villages as well as line leakages in Titariya village, with main pipeline valves leaking have added to the villagers’ misery.Public Health Engineering Department’s (PHED) additional chief engineer Ramchandra Rar, during inspection in the last two days found such irregularities in more than 50 villages. He has directed assistant engineer (AEN) and junior engineer (JEN) of Kekri to remain stationed in Sanpla village till the supply is not improved in the villages. “We called up the PHED and a team reached our village for inspection and found irregular supply,” said Mohan Kumawat of Jawala village. The team inspected water supply in Shokaliya, Sarwar, Madhopur, Jawala, Jaliya, Sanpla, Titariya, Kadera, Devpura, Mokaliya, Khawas, Sheshpura, Bharai and surrounding villages in two days. “We found leakages in the main Bisalpur pipeline in Titrariya and apprised the officials,” said Rajeev Kumar, superintendent engineer at PHED. The team visited several houses in villages and found salty water coming from hand pumps. “There were more than 50 complaints of illegal connections in these villages, leading to faulty water supply in remote villages,” said a villager. The officials organised a ‘choupal’ (meeting) in every village and directed the engineers to remain stationed in the rural areas till the issue was solved. “I have noted all the problems and directed the engineers to report on these issues after 15 days. It will be confirmed on the ground,” added Rar. He said, “Regular potable water supply during summer is our top priority. I am not happy with the situation and have told the department officials to remain alert and solve any complaints made by the villagers within 24 hours.”
