Cabinet approves BC panel’s caste name change plea
Hyderabad: The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes has expressed its happiness over the state cabinet approving the recommendations made by the BC Commission on two issues -- changing the names of several castes that are considered derogatory and approving the list of eligible nomadic communities for schemes such as SEED being implemented by the central govt.Commission Chairman G Niranjan said they recommended the change of name of "Dommara" caste to Gadavanshiya, remove Pichakuntla and retain Vamsharaj, remove Shudra caste associated with Tammali, add the term Shivakshatriya to the Budabukkala caste, include Dhobi as a synonym for the Chakali caste, include Meru as a synonym for the Mera caste and prioritise the name Veerabhadriya caste and rearrange the order of its associated castes Veeramushti and Nethikothala in the BC list.The chairman of the state BC Commission, G Niranjan, and members Rapolu Jayaprakash, Tirumalagiri Surender and Balalakshmi Rangu expressed their happiness over the govt accepting the Commission's recommendations aimed at the welfare of nomadic and marginalised communities in the state.
