TaRaSu Theatre gets multiplex-style revamp, set to reopen soon

Chitradurga: The long-pending renovation of TaRaSu Theatre in Chitradurga has reached the final stage, reviving one of the city’s key cultural spaces. The theatre had deteriorated over the past year, making it unfit for public use and forcing authorities to shut it for renovation. The work is being carried out by the Zilla Nirmithi Kendra.Though TaRaSu Theatre was renovated earlier in 2016, the present project is more extensive and modern in design. The upgraded facility has now been transformed into an acoustic theatre with advanced sound and lighting systems inspired by the PVR model. Authorities expect the theatre to reopen for public use shortly after the remaining work is completed.The interiors have been developed with technical support from a well-known Bengaluru-based firm, giving the venue a modern and professional finish. According to officials, only a few external works remain, including installation of the nameplate and plantation around the premises.Officials believe the upgraded theatre will emerge as a major cultural asset for the city. The theatre also stands as a tribute to noted writer TaRaSu. To introduce younger generations to his literary legacy, the renovated building prominently features names of some of his celebrated works, including Durgastamana, Kambaniya Kuyilu and Raktarathri.“The total cost of the renovation is Rs 2.5 crore, funded through the District Mineral Foundation (DMF). The project has covered complete repair and modernisation of both interior and exterior civil structures, along with pavers and roofing,” said deputy commissioner T Venkatesh.He added that discussions will soon be held with officials and elected representatives to decide a suitable date for formal inauguration. “Once opened, the renovated TaRaSu Theatre is expected to become a vibrant centre for cultural and literary activities in Chitradurga,” he said.
