Hosapete: Seven people were injured in a head-on collision between a goods vehicle and a car near Dharmasagar village in Hosapete taluk of Vijayanagar district on Sunday.
Police said the car was travelling from Ballari towards Vijayapura when the accident took place on NH-63. Preliminary investigation indicates that rash and negligent driving by the goods vehicle driver led to the mishap.
The impact of the collision left Suresh, 42, and Dr Shobha Nayak, 58, both residents of Vijayapura, seriously injured. Five others travelling in the two vehicles sustained minor injuries. All the injured were shifted to the govt hospital in Hosapete, where they are undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, local residents blamed the slow-paced highway work on NH-63 for the accident and expressed anger over the lack of safety measures at the work site. They alleged that the road construction company failed to install even basic cautionary signboards, resulting in frequent accidents along the stretch.
Personnel from Gadiganur rural police station visited the spot, conducted an inspection and registered a case.
