Aizawl: Mizoram University registrar Prof Lalnundanga said the Mizo language would gain increasing importance under the National Education Policy (NEP), noting ‘The
University Grants Commission (UGC) has even instructed us to include Mizo on university signboards’.
Speaking at the two-day national seminar on ‘Understanding Contemporary Mizo Literature: Issues and Concerns’ organised by the Mizo department of Pachhunga University College (PUC), Prof Lalnundanga explained that previously, the Govt of India’s ministry of education had directed universities to use only Hindi and English on their signboards.
However, since the adoption of NEP 2020, institutions have also been instructed to include their respective regional languages. He emphasised that signboards should now be written in Hindi, English, and Mizo, adding, “The Mizo Department and the Mizo language will become increasingly significant.”
