Security tightened in Aizawl for PM’s inauguration of Bairabi-Sairang railway
Aizawl: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the newly completed Bairabi-Sairang Railway Line on Saturday, marking a historic moment as Mizoram's capital, Aizawl, connects to the national rail network for the first time. The event, to be held at Aizawl Lammual, has been opened to the public by the Mizoram govt, with extensive security measures in place.Modi’s itinerary includes landing at Lengpui airport, 37 km from Aizawl, at approximately 9am. Weather permitting, he will then travel by helicopter to Thuampui helipad before proceeding to the event venue. In case of adverse weather, the Prime Minister will travel by road.The 51.38-kilometer Bairabi-Sairang line will be inaugurated alongside the flagging off of three new express trains: Aizawl–Delhi Rajdhani Express, Aizawl–Kolkata Express, and Aizawl–Guwahati Express. Additionally, Modi will unveil two educational institutions and launch six development projects during the public meeting.Security has been tightened across Aizawl, particularly at the Assam Rifles ground, the event’s location. Aizawl deputy commissioner has banned the use of remote-controlled drones and aerial cameras over the district until Sept 15 to ensure safety.Following the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will depart Mizoram from Lengpui Airport, concluding his visit.
