Aizawl: In a significant boost to Mizoram’s infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the newly constructed 51.38-kilometer Bairabi-Sairang broad gauge railroad in Aizawl on Sept 13. The project promises to transform the region’s connectivity and economic landscape.Union secretary for information & communication technology, Amit Sharma, has been overseeing the meticulous preparations in Aizawl. He confirmed that arrangements, including power, water supply, and mandatory forest clearances, are nearly complete. The North-east Frontier Railway (NFR) is racing against the clock to finalize the Sairang railway station on Aizawl's outskirts before the grand opening.Adding to the event’s significance, Union minister of railways and information & broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, will arrive in Aizawl a day prior to the inauguration.Amit Sharma, also the director of census operations, emphasized the transformative impact of the new railway connectivity on Mizoram’s residents, highlighting the benefits of enhanced transport options.Security measures have been intensified across Aizawl, particularly at the Assam Rifles ground, the venue for the inaugural ceremony. Only security personnel are permitted entry, and a temporary ban on remote-controlled drones and aerial cameras has been enforced until September 15.Chief minister Lalduhoma announced that the Sairang rail station is being developed to world-class standards, with plans to introduce Rajdhani Express services linking Aizawl to major cities nationwide.
