For those who talk about global community and acceptance at global levels, the reality lies in roots and gaps, hidden from their eyes. Racism as a concept is just as alive as it was years ago. The only difference is that people now either keep it in their minds or are brazen enough to post their thoughts on social media in the name of 'free country' and 'free speech'
A video going viral on the internet is a sad and disappointing proof of this reality. Filmed in Canada in a subway station, a man was filming an Indian TTC supervisor, mocking them when a Canadian woman stepped in to defend him.
Capturing the face of the TTC supervisor on camera, the man said "Ah! Look at that!." Quickly the Indian supervisor turned back and went away, while a white woman stepped in front of the camera, stopping the man from recording with her hands in front of his phone.
"Leave him alone, really?," asked the woman when the man claimed, "It's a free country I can take a video of whoever I want."
When the woman replied, "he's working," he said "So what? Don't touch me!"
The TTC supervisor then returned asking the woman to let it go when the woman pointed to a man near her side and shared that her boyfriend is Indian as well.
She also got emotional seeing the racist man's behaviour.
The man kept on recording the woman, claiming he had freedom of speech to say whatever he wanted, while she was pulled away by her boyfriend.
Netizens react to the white woman's bravery
Netizens in the comments section of the video have been appreciating the woman for standing up against racism and defending the Indian man.
"Standing up against racism ๐ way to go girl ๐ช๐ป," wrote a person on Instagram.
"Good people are EVERYWHERE on this planet. Period :)," another commented.
"Bravo lady for standing up against this person who is driven by hatred trying to hide it as freedom of speech. Be kind even if you were taught you are superior because of your skin colour," wrote another.
"That is one brave girl who has been raised well. Bravo! ๐ ๐๐
" commended another.
"I'm just proud of this person for standing up to him and the supervisor to remain calm about it" wrote another.
