Agartala: Tripura Police on Saturday night arrested two persons accused of brutally beating a dog to death in Harijoy Chowdhury Para village of Ranirbazar in eastern Agartala on Sept 4.
Police said the accused have been named as Aparesh Bhattacharjee (55) and Bhupesh Sarkar (46), both hailing from Harijoy Chowdhury Para village.
The arrests came after an FIR was lodged by animal lover and dental surgeon Dr Ranabi Roy, who denounced the act and sought justice for the innocent victim.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage throughout the state, with citizens, NGOs, and animal rights groups, demanding strict action for the offenders.
Pawsome-Agartala, a registered NGO, and K-Nine, a leading animal welfare organisation, have played a pivotal role in mobilising public support and pressing for the arrest.
CM Manik Saha and animal resource development minister Sudhangshu Das have taken proactive measures to ensure a swift response, underscoring the govt's dedication to addressing animal cruelty.
