Plea against Sonam bail: HC sets next hearing on June 8
Shillong: The Meghalaya high court continued hearing for the second consecutive day on Friday arguments in defence of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband Raja, and posted the matter for further hearing on June 8.“Heard Mr S Thapa, learned counsel for the respondent. Hearing is not concluded and will continue on the next date. As agreed by the parties, accordingly, list this matter for further hearing on 8th June, 2026,” Judge W Diengdoh ordered on Friday in relation to the State of Meghalaya vs Sonam Raghuvanshi case. The HC had begun hearing the defence counsel’s arguments on June 4. On Monday, the HC had completed hearing arguments of the state govt through advocate general A Kumar, seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Sonam.Additional DC (judicial), Shillong, Dashalene R Kharbteng, had granted conditional bail to Sonam on April 27, citing procedural lapses during her arrest, saying she was not made aware of the correct section of the BNS under which she was held. The state govt, however, maintained that the accused was made aware by the police of the grounds of her arrest and submitted supporting documents in the court on May 4, seeking revocation of the bail.
Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was murdered near a waterfall at Sohra (Cherrapunji) in May 2025 by a gang of four killers hired from Madhya Pradesh and UP, allegedly at the behest of his newly married wife, ostensibly, during their ‘honeymoon’ trip.
