Silchar: Citizens Rights Preservation Committee (CRPC), Assam, a social organisation, has lodged a complaint with governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya against Sribhumi DC Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi, accusing him of biased and anti-people conduct during a bandh on Sept 6 that was called to protest the renaming of Karimganj district as Sribhumi. In a memorandum on Tuesday, CRPC alleged that the bandh, which was supported by political parties, organisations and civil society groups, was “peaceful” until students of Nabinchandra College, Badarpur, staged a demonstration inside their campus. The NGO claimed that the DC, accompanied by police, security forces and members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, allegedly “barged” into the college premises and disrupted the protest.According to CRPC, Dwivedi allegedly ordered the police to identify and arrest demonstrators with “Muslim names”.“We are annexing a video clip showing the partisan role of the DC. His acts were unconstitutional,” the memorandum read. The organisation urged the governor to transfer Dwivedi and place him under suspension, and direct state govt to initiate disciplinary action.Neither Dwivedi nor the district administration could be reached for comments till the time of filing of the report.
