Cachar cops seize heroin worth Rs 2.82 crore, two held
Silchar: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Cachar police, in two separate operations, seized suspected heroin worth around Rs 2.82 crore on Sunday and arrested two persons, officials said.The first operation was conducted at Gachtala Tematha, under Sonai police station, where police, based on specific intelligence inputs, arrested one Riaz Uddin Laskar, leading to the recovery of seven soap cases from his possession, with each containing 123.51 grams of suspected heroin. Police also recovered Rs 40,000 in cash from Laskar.In another operation at the Lailapur police picket, police intercepted a scooter during a routine checking, where 33 multi-coloured soap cases, containing suspected heroin weighing around 441.09 grams, was recovered from the vehicle’s storage compartment.The rider, identified as Ziabur Rahman Laskar, was immediately taken into custody.Police said the total quantity of heroin seized across the two operations amounted to 564.6 grams, with an estimated value of Rs 2.82 crore. The scooter, which was allegedly used for transporting the contraband, was also seized.
