Govt plans expansion of water supply infra in Quepem areas

Margao: State govt has outlined a major water supply enhancement plan for several villages in the Quepem constituency that have remained outside the coverage of the existing Selaulim water supply project.

The infrastructure development plan encompasses five key areas, with a total estimated expenditure running into crores of rupees. The initiative aims to address the water supply shortage in remote settlements that have long been underserved by existing water distribution networks.

The most significant project involves Morpirla, where the construction of a 100-cum capacity ground level reservoir near the Shiramoddi temple road at Zamlimoddi has been planned. This Rs 32-lakh project will serve the Zamlimoddi, Kanibag, Ghadiwada and Galli areas. The project is awaiting expenditure sanction.

In the Barcem-Quedem village panchayat, two significant projects hav been planned. The first involves extending a 100mm ductile iron (DI) pipeline at Bormolem, estimated at Rs 15 lakh. Additionally, a 90mm distribution pipeline will be laid at Subdolem, requiring an investment of Rs 37 lakh.

The Naqueri-Betul area will receive enhanced connectivity through a 110mm pipeline serving Bondai and Dessaiwada, addressing water needs at Tembiwada, Dessaiwada, and Bondai. This project, valued at Rs 50 lakh, is currently at the level of estimate submission.

Similar pipeline infrastructure has been planned for Basrai in the Balli-Adnem village panchayat area.

Perhaps the most extensive coverage, PWD sources said, has been planned for the Khola region, where several settlements, including Nuvem, Kudai, Cabo de Rama, Saleri, Parekhata, Vagon, Kajumoll and Pareymoll, will be connected through the existing piped network infrastructure of Mokhard, Canacona.

Official sources said various estimates for these projects are at different stages of administrative approval, with several already processed and awaiting final clearance. They said upon the completion of these works, most of the Quepem constituency will be covered by the Selaulim water distribution network.
