Calangute: Shipad Debnath, 63-year-old caretaker of a house in Porbawaddo, Calangute, was killed in the early hours of Thursday allegedly by a person who was residing in a room with him. Police have Kamal Adhikari, the accused, who shared a room with Debnath, a native of Dinajpur, West Bengal.
Calangute police said they received a call about a body lying outside a house at Porbawaddo, following which a police team reached the spot. During the inquiry, it was found that Debnath was the caretaker of the house whose owner resides in Mumbai and lived in a room behind the house along with Adhikari, who was from his native village.

On questioning, Adhikari claimed that four unidentified persons barged into the room and assaulted both of them in the middle of the night. However, on examining CCTV footage from the area, police found that no one had entered the room besides the two who were staying there.
Police said they found that Adhikari had an argument with Debnath in the middle of the night and in a fit of anger, hit him on the head with a sharp weapon, leading to his death. He then dumped the body outside in the open.
Calangute police are investigating the case.
