Flood warning issued for people living on Bhavani riverbanks
ERODE: The water resources department (WRD) on Tuesday issued a safety warning for people living on the banks of the Bhavani river, as the water level in the Bhavanisagar dam in Erode district reached its maximum capacity on Tuesday.In a statement, WRD officials stated the water level of the Bhavanisagar dam had reached 101.94 feet by 9am on Tuesday. It rose to 102 feet by 11am. “Since then, surplus water has been discharged into the Bhavani river at a rate ranging from 5,000 cusecs to 10,000 cusecs, with the release volume anticipated to gradually increase," a WRD official said.All people living on the banks of the Bhavani river and in low-lying areas were being moved to safer locations. They were advised to take all necessary precautions to protect their lives and property.
