Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during election campaign events in Darjeeling and West Bengal. Shah alleged that women in the state suffered atrocities under the current regime, citing the Sandeshkhali incidents as a major example of law-and-order failure. He further claimed that all offenders will be brought to justice if the BJP comes to power in Bengal.Taking a political swipe, Shah also targeted Mamata Banerjee over reports and claims regarding her nephew’s political future, asserting that leadership change within the family would not materialise. He added that Bengal’s Chief Minister must be “born, educated, and rooted in Bengal,” rejecting allegations of an outsider being imposed. On development and governance, Shah questioned the state’s allocation of funds, contrasting North Bengal development spending with madrassa allocations, and said justice and development for regions like North Bengal and the Gorkha community would be ensured under BJP rule. The remarks have intensified political tensions ahead of the West Bengal elections 2026.
