Rain likely today, city could see lower temperature
New Delhi: The city is likely to witness rain and gusty winds on Monday night and Tuesday, leading to a drop in mercury.
The maximum temperature on Monday was 37.5 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. It was 37.9 degrees Celsius a day earlier. Though no station in Delhi saw rain till 5.30 pm on Monday, India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for light to very light rain from Monday night to Tuesday. The Met department said there is a possibility of thundery developments on Wednesday too.
The day temperature is likely to dip to about 34-36 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday. “However, as the impact of the western disturbance is likely to be over by Wednesday, the city may see a rise in mercury from Thursday onwards,” a Met official said.
The maximum temperature is predicted to reach 40 degrees Celsius by May 16. It may remain around 38-40 degrees on May 16 and 39-41 degrees Celsius on May 17.
The AQI on Monday was 131. According to the Centre’s Air Quality Early Warning System (EWS), the AQI is likely to stay moderate until Tuesday and become satisfactory by Wednesday.
