Man found dead at his house in Coimbatore; probe on
Coimbatore: A 33-year-old man was found dead at his residence in the North Housing Unit area of Selvapuram in the city on Thursday. Police have launched an investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The Selvapuram police identified the deceased as I Rangaraj, a daily wage labourer. According to a police officer, Rangaraj was alone at home after his wife Lakshmi left for work in the morning. "When she was unable to contact him, she requested her relative Rathna to check on him. Rathna went to the house around 11.30am and found Rangaraj lying unresponsive in the hall. She tried to wake him by sprinkling water on his face, but in vain. She then alerted the 108 ambulance service. Medical staff arrived at the scene, examined Rangaraj and declared him dead," the officer said. Rangaraj's relative N Manjula, 48, subsequently lodged a complaint with the Selvapuram police, who registered a case and initiated a probe. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Rangaraj was in the habit of quarrelling with his wife often in an inebriated state as he doubted her fidelity. "On Wednesday (May 6) night, he returned home intoxicated and picked up a quarrel with Lakshmi. He told the family members that he was involved in a scuffle near a Tasmac shop earlier that night, when two men snatched a liquor bottle from him, causing minor injuries to his right cheek and neck," the officer said. The Selvapuram police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which relates to the investigation of suspicious or unnatural deaths.
