COIMBATORE: Unidentified people broke into a locked house at B K Pudur near Kuniyamuthur near here and stole 103 sovereigns of gold and Rs 10,000 in cash.
The burglary happened in the house of R Jeba Martin, 56, of Sathankulam in Tuticorin, who resides with her family at B K Pudur and works at a private school in Kuniyamuthur.
On Dec 24, Jeba and her family members went to Tuticorin to attend a relative's funeral. They returned to Coimbatore on Friday morning and saw the front door of their house open. They found that 103 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 10,000 in cash had been stolen from the house.
Jeba informed the Kuniyamuthur police, who rushed to the scene and began investigations. A K9 dog squad and fingerprint experts also arrived at the scene.
According to police sources, the burglars damaged the CCTV cameras installed in the area and entered the house using a duplicate key. They packed the ornaments in a pillow cover and fled the scene.
Three special teams have been formed to nab the burglars.
