Drunk stranded in temple tank rescued

Chennai: A drunk man who got stranded in the middle of a temple tank near Thiruporur Kandhaswamy temple was rescued by fire and rescue personnel on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at Saravana Poigai temple tank adjoining the temple.He swam across the water and reached the Neerazhi Mandapam,located at the centre of the tank. However,he was unable to swim back to the shore.According to fire and rescue services personnel, the tank is deep and filled with slush, and several fatal accidents have been reported here. The temple administration has locked entry points on all four sides, allowing access only through a small opening near the southern entrance.Despite these precautions, the drunk man entered the tank and reached the mandapam. As he could not return, he shouted for help. Thiruporur fire and rescue services, rushed to the spot, entered the tank, and brought the man back ashore. He was let off after a warning. TNN
