Coaching centres make hay as NEET courses commence
Chennai: With the National Testing Agency(NTA) announcing a re-exam for NEET UG 2026 on June 21, city's govt model schools and city's coaching centres have rejigged their schedule, incorporating crash courses. The school education department, for instance, is set to commence its crash course from Monday in all its model schools and ‘Vetri Palligal' (a high-performing govt higher secondary school per block). "We have a special month-long camp for coaching. There will be day-long lessons and trainers have been notified. In some schools, the training will begin on Tuesday," school education secretary B Chandramohan said, adding that this will be in addition to the other coaching under way at these schools.Private coaching centres — which usually commence admissions to its year-long courses for students willing to sit out of college admissions — have also grabbed the opportunity. Prominent centres have deployed tele-callers and ordered employees to make calls, set daily targets, and increase enrolments — set to begin on May 19. "Numbers have been provided to us through agencies, and I have to make around 100 calls a day to see if any aspirant wants to enrol. We also have to pitch our package — repeater courses (for students who sit out of college admissions for a year) and test sessions," said K Manikandan, who canvassed for Unacademy. The courses will be held offline from 9am to 4pm, said K Gowtham from Shankar Medico Academy. "Students will be charged 10,000 for the entire course, which includes weekly assessments on Mondays and daily practice sessions besides revisions," he added.Crash courses have opened up in other districts for students. In Namakkal — a hub for NEET coaching in the state — centres are now inviting students. "We have opened up slots to admit students for the next 30 months. Their accommodation and food will be taken care of. The course will only involve assessments, revisions, clearing of doubts and error analysis sessions to brush up the topics for students in the next one month," said Satheish, founder, Feathers' Academy.
