CHANDIGARH: In view of the slappingand misbehaviour incidents with teachers in city schools in the last one month,the state executive committee of Government Teachers? Union called an emergencymeeting on
Thursday.
In the meeting, chaired by union president
Vinod Sharma, members raised the issue of security of teachers on school premises and demanded that the accused who slapped a woman teacher in Government Senior Secondary School, Karsan, be immediately put behind bars.
”The recent incidents of a student slapping a teacher inKaimbwala school and outsiders entering Karsan school and hitting a womaneducator have shocked the teacher fraternity and raised serious securityconcerns,” Sharma said.
The committee also demanded immediate withdrawal of orders to terminate the services of Chaman Lal, teacher of GSSS, Kaimbwala, who was slapped by the school student after he allegedly slapped him.
The committee members added that the student had apologised to theteacher and admitted his mistake.
”The case is clear ... whenthe student himself has admitted his mistake, there is no point terminating theteacher’s services,” the union president added.
Sharmasaid, “Teachers are no more secure in government schools. Security shouldbe ensured on school premises.”
The panel also plans to meetthe UT education secretary to highlight their demands.
