Sonipat: While maintaining a tight security cover during the Sonipat municipal corporation elections on Sunday, the Haryana Police showcased its humane and citizen-friendly side by extending support to the elderly, differently-abled and vulnerable voters across polling stations in the city.
Following the directions of the Sonipat commissioner of police, Mamta Singh, police personnel deployed on election duty were not only instructed to ensure peaceful and fair polling but also to prioritise assistance for senior citizens and specially-abled voters.
Sonipat police spokesperson Ravindra Singh said officials were specifically directed to ensure that no voter faced inconvenience while casting their vote.
At several polling booths, police personnel were seen escorting elderly voters to polling stations and helping those with mobility issues. Wheelchairs were arranged for voters who were unable to walk comfortably, while officers personally assisted differently-abled citizens in reaching the booths safely.
Special arrangements were also made to prioritise access to senior citizens standing in long queues, ensuring they did not have to wait for extended periods. Throughout the day, police teams remained actively engaged in guiding voters, maintaining order and extending assistance wherever required.
