Hisar: The HTM police station in Hisar has registered an FIR after a YouTuber allegedly received a threatening phone call in which he was abused, threatened and referred to with derogatory terms. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a group of people.
According to the complaint, YouTuber Vipin Khurana received a phone call on June 2 from a mobile number, during which the caller allegedly used abusive language, referred to him as a "refugee", and attempted to pressure him to stop broadcasting certain news reports. The caller also allegedly issued threats of serious consequences and harm to life and property. Acting on the complaint, HTM police registered a case under Sections 196(2) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 296 (obscene acts and songs), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 356(2) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.
The memorandum further alleged that the caller made objectionable remarks about former Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar during the conversation. Seeking govt intervention, the signatories urged the state to ensure a fair investigation. Police officials said the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the probe.
