Bathinda: A buffalo died and some others sustained injuries when the roof of a dairy farm caved in at Bhainibagha village in Mansa district due to high-velocity winds that lashed the region Thursday. The roof, made of asbestos fibre sheets and iron girders, collapsed, which hit a number of buffaloes, and one of them was hit in the head by a girder. The farm, situated in the fields in the village, belonged to Charan Singh, former sarpanch of the village. The village was also lashed with a hailstorm.
High-velocity winds followed by rain were reported at various places across Punjab, including Balochan village in Faridkot, Chotian in Sangrur, Rahudianwali in Muktsar and Thuthianwali in Mansa. Some hailstorm activity was also reported at some places.
As per India Meteorological Department, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-60 kmph) is also likely over Punjab and Haryana during June 5 and 6. Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-50 kmph) is likely over Himachal Pradesh during June 5-6. The orange alert has been issued for thunderstorm, lightning with gusty winds (50-60 kmph) at isolated places in both Punjab and Haryana on June 5 and yellow alert with thunderstorm, lightning with gusty winds (40-50 kmph) on June 6.
