Another drug overdose death in Kapurthala
Kapurthala: A 28-year-old man allegedly died of a drug overdose in Kapurthala's Chakoki village, under the Dhilwan police station, late Monday night. In the last four weeks, it's the fourth drug-related death in the area.Deceased Shamsher Singh's brother, Akashdeep, said his brother was working with his friends to shift straw during the day. In the evening, they all gathered to consume drugs, after which Shamsher lost consciousness, he said.Akashdeep said that around 8.30 pm, the friends brought Shamsher home in an unconscious state. The family rushed him to a hospital at Subhanpur, but he died on the way, he added.Upon receiving information about the incident, Dhilwan police arrived at the scene and started an investigation.Bholath DSP Gagandeep Singh Ghuman said the family informed the police that Shamsher had been consuming drugs for the last few years, but they did not admit him to a de-addiction centre.The DSP said the police prepared an inquest report under Section 194 of the BNSS.On April 9, two addicts died in Raipur Araiyan, and another addict from the village died a week later.Congress leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira posted on his social media account: "This is the 5th drug death in my constituency in 15 days.
