Kullu: Three men were killed and two critically injured when their car rammed into a stationary hydraulic crane near Nerchowk in Mandi district, 120km from Shimla, late Monday night.
A police officer said the five men were travelling from Nerchowk towards Sundernagar when the driver lost control of the vehicle on Kiratpur-Manali highway and it slammed into the parked crane near Dadaur around 10:40 pm. The car was mangled in the collision.
Locals, who witnessed the accident, immediately called emergency services and tried to rescue the victims. They were taken to a nearby govt hospital but three of them — Anil Kumar, 28, Subhash Kumar, 35, and Rohit Kumar, 26 — couldn't be saved. Survivors Harish and Pankaj Kumar are being treated at AIIMS-Bilaspur, around 60km from the accident site.
Preliminary findings suggest over-speeding led to the accident, said an officer.
